This movie is probably one of my favorite movies. The film is loosely based on James Fenimore Cooper’s book “Last of the Mohicans,” but in all honesty it takes more from John L. Balderston’s adaptation of the book. It stars Daniel Day-Lewis, who is an Oscar magnet, as Hawkeye, a trapper during the French and Indian Wars. Hawkeye and his adopted family, made up of the last two Mohican Indians, are attempting to head west to avoid the war. In the process they save two young women and a redcoat from a Mohawk attack.
The movie is great, plain and simple. The acting is absolutely great, and the score is fantastic. This movie falls into three of my favorite genres: period pieces, action, and romance. Check this movie out, as a favor to me.
